To remove swirls and scratches from a car using Meguiar's polish, follow these steps:
Materials Needed:
- Meguiar’s polish (such as Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish or Meguiar's Mirror Glaze)
- Microfiber towels
- Car wax (optional for protection)
- Polishing pads (for machine polishing) or applicator pads (for hand polishing)
- Car wash supplies (to clean the car beforehand)
Steps:
Clean the Car:
- Before polishing, thoroughly wash the car to remove any dirt and debris that could scratch the surface during the process. Dry it with a microfiber towel.
Inspect the Damage:
- Identify the swirls and scratches you want to treat. This will help you focus on specific areas that need attention.
Apply the Polish:
- For hand application: Put a small amount of Meguiar's polish onto an applicator pad or microfiber towel. You don’t need a lot—just enough to cover a small section of the car.
- For machine application: If you're using a dual-action polisher, apply the polish to the pad (not directly on the car) and work in small sections.
Polish in Circular Motion:
- Using your pad or polisher, work the polish into the surface using overlapping circular motions. Be sure not to apply too much pressure. Let the polish break down and smooth the surface, typically for 1-2 minutes per section. If using a machine, set it to a low speed.
Buff Off the Residue:
- Once the polish has dried or become hazy, use a clean microfiber towel to buff off the residue. Flip the towel to a clean side frequently to avoid smearing.
Inspect the Surface:
- Check for any remaining swirls or scratches. If they are still visible, you can repeat the process on the affected areas, applying a little more polish.
Apply Car Wax (Optional):
- After polishing, applying a layer of car wax will protect the paint and enhance the shine. Simply follow the instructions on the wax product and buff it off after it dries.
Tips:
- Always work on a cool, dry surface in a shaded area.
- Work on small sections at a time to ensure thorough polishing.
- If using a machine, keep the pad flat and avoid tilting it, as this can cause uneven results.
This process will reduce the appearance of swirls and light scratches, restoring your car's finish.
